Batam is one of the most developed and affluent city in Indonesia, and is attractive Investment destination due to the availability of industrial land, competitive wages and abundant skilled manpower supply.

In general, most industries can be set up in Batam, but the most common industries in Batam are electronics and related products such as printed circuit boards, computer component, and parts. Light to medium industries like manufacturing, shipyard, agro industry and fishery are also suitable to be developed in Batam due to topographic condition.

Other light industries include leather goods, garment, toys, customer & household products and healthcare products. Numerous companies are also involved in medium industries like steel fabrication, oil exploration equipment, prefabrication of oil rigs offshore, heavy equipment, ship building and repairs.

 

Investment in Batam

Foreign investment and Domestic Investment Batam is still a very attractive investment destination. This can be seen from the number of Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) in Batam 2012 with 95 project with investment values of $US 1.232.566.500 while the value of investments in 2011 wa $US 140.975.200 with 102 projects. Resulting a quite significant increase in the value if investment.

Numerous well known multinational companies such as Ciba Vision, Nippon Steel, Epson, Matsushita, McDermott, Philips, Sanyo, Panasonic, Siemens, TEAC, Ballast Nedam, etc, have been operating in Batam. By the end of 2011, there were 1364 operating companies in the most development industrial city.

 

Investment Opportunities

As Free Trade Zone Area, Batam has plenty of potential and investment opportunities in various sectors. For example in tourism, Batam has beautiful white sand beaches with clear blue water in Nongsa, water front, and surrounding islands, while agro tourism as well as other sectors such as manufacturing, shipyard, and trans shipment are also very promising.
